The view from here
2 March 2009 15:17I had a very busy weekend (for me), so I'm paying for it today. It's pretty much what I expected, and at least I got two days of activity instead of my usual one day; although last night it was starting to get pretty rough.
We ended up getting about an inch of snow. I was really worried that the big east coast storm had moved west and was going to spew all over us. It's not that I don't expect to continue to get snow during March. And April. I just like to have some warning. It's been great being able to drive along bare pavement and to be able to see where the side of the road ends and the ditch begins. It's the little things, you know?
I've been watching the burgeoning world economic crisis with growing concern. Is this getting much play in the US press? Canada seems to be addressing it solely in terms of "We're doing OK relative to the rest of the world." And outside of the internet I really haven't seen much attention being paid to the growing food crisis around the world. And let's not forget the shortage of water. There's an article at Salon that encapsulates it pretty well.
A few times a month I check in on a site called Global Guerillas. The author is an expert on "21st Century warfare, systems disruption, and open source insurgency." He's always been spot on in predicting how insurgents will attack and what their targets will be. He applies this to all systems, including governments, and he has some interesting things to say about what might happen and how individual communities can respond. I find it all fascinating.
