LOTR glass_0395, originally uploaded by maystone1.

I've had this glass for ten years now. It was a give-away at Burger King after the first LOTR movie came out, and I made them give me the one with Aragorn on the other side. It looks nothing like Aragorn, but it's the thought that counts. Every day I have my glass of diet ginger ale in my LOTR flagon (as I like to think of it). Speaking of LOTR, I'm almost done with reading the trilogy for the umpteenth time; I'm going to miss it when I'm done.

She's not a lap cat as much as she is a leg cat. I was watching the playoffs with the Patriots (sigh), and she sprawled out down my legs as she always does. I can't really believe that it's all that comfortable, but she seems happy. And yes, my socks don't match, except they did come to me as a pair; they're seconds, but still very soft and warm.

I have that goblet too! With LOTR I let myself be geek-fanatic. Love anything to do with it, things that trigger me thinking about the book. And Aragorn all over my house :)

Oh, I know how you must feel being near the end! I always hate leaving it.

Aragorn goblet! Ha! You're the only other person I know who has one :) So you've seen the movies? The best adaption of books to movies that I've ever seen. (To Kill a Mockingbird is a close second.) After my first reading - back in 1966 - I stopped rereading the sections with Frodo and Sam in Mordor because Sam was, in my opinion, such an obsequious toady. I hated him, and I was starting to hate Frodo, too. The movies eased up on the English classism of the book and made Sam much more likable for me. So this time I read the Mordor sections, and I was able to overlay Sean Astin's portrayal onto Tolkien's original servant characterization. I really enjoyed it, too.

It's a pleasure to meet another LOTR geek :)

Oh, yes, I was thrilled with the movies. I think when I saw the Fellowship for the first time at the theater, I sat there mouth gaping, not wanting to leave. Ever. I wanted to go back and be in it. I love Viggo as Aragorn, and I thought they could NEVER do Aragorn as I'd imagined.

I probably first read the books in the seventies. My mom bought me that red and gold volume. We were all fanatics :)

Ack, have to go help my daughter with chemistry final prep! And I was about to emerge in fantasy ...
