Most of you are too young to remember that ad, I'm betting. Still, the description fits. I thought I was having a bad bought of allergies, but
darlong thinks that I have a cold. Joy. I'm hoping that it's allergies, because that will pass faster than a cold will. I'm such a wuss.
This morning I went to the hospital to get my pre-biopsy work-up done. I had to be cross-matched for blood type in case something goes wrong and I have to get a transfusion. Joy oh joy. Then this afternoon a nurse from the hospital called and went over the procedure and the prep with me. That was a little bit startling. I mean I'm very glad that they're so on top of things, but I've had several day surgeries and have never needed this much preparation. I'm not worried or anything, just surprised.
So did you guys have a good Fourth? Anyone go to any fireworks or picnics? I know that my brother in CT told me that they were expecting crappy weather today; hopefully most of you got to enjoy the holiday. It actually turned out to be a pretty day here - not a rain drop in sight once the sun came up. That is nearly miraculous considering the weather pattern we've been in.
So you know how we have a gazillion cats already? Yeah, well we're now a gazillion and one. We've been adopted by a local stray - or if he's not a stray, then he's one very neglected barn cat. He's been hanging around meowing on and off for a few months now, and Mark finally broke down and fed him. Which means he's calling this home. I fed him some dry food today, too, just to seal the deal. Sigh. He's afraid of people, and I'm not sure if that means he's mostly feral or that he's been abused. He's not starving, but he's certainly hungry. Mao doesn't like him and chases him off when he can. (Those of you who've met Mao will get how funny that is.) The rest of the cats tolerate him except for Chloe who actively wants to be his friend, but he hisses at her. As long as there's no active fighting, I'm OK with how things are. Mark has named him Spot, after Data's cat in ST:TNG. Because it always comes back to Star Trek for this household.

Happy 4th!
4 July 2008 14:06Happy Fourth of July to my fellow Muricans from your ex-pat friend! It's always been one of my favorite holidays even though I've rarely gone to parades or flown a flag or set off fireworks (having come from a state where they were illegal.) I was going to wax all rhapsodic about what the day means to me, but my brain, she is full of fog today. Alas and alack. So instead I'll point you to an excellent post that truly sums up everything I would have said or would have wanted to say without having the words at hand.
Happy Independence Day, guys!
