Apparently not - if it's done right, of course. The males also grow fighting teeth, and those definitely have to be taken down. The usual way is to use piano wire and saw them off that way. ::shudder:: You can go too deep, which is why it's best to have a pro or someone with lots of experience do it for you or teach you how. We had our guy (Iceman) lightly sedated, and everyone involved was a lot happier for it. BTW, sedation is not uncommon for procedures like that; we're also having everyone sedated for shearing this May; it really cuts down on their stress levels (especially suris), and since all of our girls are pregnant, we really don't want them to get overly stressed.
