Lots of interest - thanks, guys! First, just to clarify, you probably won't get a show assigned to you right away. That's not a certainty, but it's most probably how it will go. What you will be offered is a list of articles that need to be done; almost every day, Colleen (another executive producer) sends out a list of opportunities to all the writers on staff. If you see something that you'd like to do, jump on it. If you have an idea for a stand-alone that you'd like to write, send that to us, too.
There are four execs: Erwin is the owner and CEO; Dar, Colleen, and I are executive producers with different specific duties. Colleen will be sending out the notices of what writing opportunities are open. Erwin decides what shows get covered and what stand-alone articles will be posted. If you have any suggestions, we'd pass them along to him.
This is a volunteer position for now. Some writers will be paid (a nominal amount), but at first you need to dig in and show that you can write well and to a deadline. As I said (and Dar noted in a comment to the last post), there are perks and even some swag. (Yay, swag!)
If you're still interested, we'd like everyone to write the same thing. (Except for
cajoje, who has a prior assignment.) We'd like one article with a maximum of 500 words on a show you love and a show you hate. Spelling counts. Punctuation counts. Grammar counts. Of course you can use your own voice and be colloquial, but it should be obvious that you know your way around the language. (You may think I'm being pedantic, but you'd be shocked at some of the writing that's been submitted along the way.)
We have a simple style guide. Show names are in italics. Episode names are in quotation marks. Direct quotes are in italics and quotation marks. The first time a character is mentioned, the actor's name goes in parentheses immediately after. "The main reason I can't watch Star Trek is that I can't abide Kirk (William Shatner)." From then on, you can use just the character's name; if you refer to the actor again, just use her/his last name.
That's it. You can send it to me - maystone at gmail dot com. Please submit your piece sooner rather than later. I'll forward it to the rest of the crew, and we'll get back to you very soon after.
This is very exciting :) I'm looking forward to reading your articles.
