I can't believe that it's not even 1PM yet. It seems like it should be at least 4PM. Non-stop all day - and it ain't over yet. The latest zaniness happened when one of the moms slipped out of the paddock and into the field next to it. (Just took a 10 minute break to go out and calm the girls who were alarming. Neighbor across the street put up a cornstalk and sunflowers by the road. Oh Noessss! What a day.) Anyway Gelly was at the complete opposite side of where the gates were, so we had to herd around the fields and try to get her through the gate and into the barn. We almost had her, but she panicked and took off into a patch of tall burrs. Like so tall that we could barely see her. We finally got her in the barn, and then Deb and Deb's daughter and I spent another 20-30 minutes trying to get dozens of burrs out of her fleece while she hollered her head off. Poor thing; I know it must have hurt her, but it had to be done.
Prior to this was I out checking on Cinnamon Girl every 30 minutes or so, because I thought that she might have been in labor. False alarm, but she is really ready to pop. (In fact, I should go check her again when I post this.) Then I thought I'd fill some water buckets for the girls so that they'd stop drinking the dirty water in the swimming pools. (The pools are filled to keep them from blowing away in the strong winds we usually have here.) All the girls are very alert to the sound of water from the hose, and I quickly had a line of alpacas wanting to be sprayed. If you've never had the chance to spray a herd of alpacas, I highly recommend it to you. Just be sure to have a spare set of clothes around.
And now I really do have to go check on CG. I was hoping to drive to Toronto to pick up Dar and say hi to
sffan, but I'm far too tired to pull it off safely. I'm hoping everyone and everything settles down here so I can lie down for a bit. And people say I'm not an optimist :)
