maystone: (My head hurts by sandy_s)
So my Mazda was abandoned at the side of the road last night because the power kept dying. We figure a fan belt went. This morning I took the Jeep and drove Mark to his first day of his new job.

On the way back, I hit a patch of black ice, lost control of the Jeep and rolled several times down a steep embankment and landed upright in a plowed field. The Jeep looks totaled, but I was able to get out of the car all right. I was standing there in shock when our friend (and now neighbor) Peter Poot drove by and saw me. He called the cops; when the officer showed up he told me that a number of cars had gone off the road that morning, including one just a half mile from where I was. The officer called a tow truck; Peter stayed with me, chatting, until the tow truck came, and then he drove me home.

I don't remember it happening, but my head hit the roof (or vice versa) because Dar says I have some bruising on my skull. I'm bruised all along my left side - no cuts, no broken bones. Dar had special-ordered that Jeep with steel reinforcement, and that's the only reason I'm here typing this now. If I had been in the Mazda when it rolled like that . . . well, let's just say that a hail storm dented the hell out of my Mazda. BTW, I'm very impressed that I didn't scream once. I remember saying, "No, no, no, no" as I headed over the embankment. But, unfortunately, yes :)

So we're down two cars in less than 12 hours. At least it happened after we were all moved. And I'm in pretty good shape all things considered. Dar is keeping an eye on me, and I'm going to take a Tylenol 3 and take a nap.
