RIP Mr. Newman
27 September 2008 11:55I suppose you've all heard by now that Paul Newman has died. It's funny that when I think of him it's rarely his acting career that comes first to mind, although especially in my younger days he was certainly still a top box office draw and I saw most of his films as first runs. No, I think of him - and Joanne Woodward - primarily as social activists and philanthropists. They were the first of the big name "put your money and your fame where your social consciousness is" celebrities, and I've always greatly respected them for it. Even if I never really liked his pop corn :) He was the epitome of cool, in my book. God speed, sir.
