Internetlessness
16 August 2008 13:09Hey, guys. This is day 5 without the internet. We got hit by lightning during one of our daily (I shit you not) thunderstorms, and it brought down our satellite connection. (And completely fried our answering machine.) They finally came out to fix the dish yesterday, but then said that we had to pay an obscene amount of money for the housecall, and oh, by the way, you have to call this person to get your connection back on line. But that person is out of the office until Monday. What a laugh riot, eh?
I'm at the library leeching off their connection in order to catch up with y'all and the blogging world in general. There's so much news that just doesn't make it onto the TV new shows, you know?
Both Gertie and Conchita look ready to pop, and now that we have (possibly, hopefully) two full days with no rain in the forecast, one of them may actually choose to have their cria. On the other hand, every day we hear how the forecast is for sun and clouds and no rain, uh-uh, no way, you can trust us, really. And every fucking day we get hit with a deluge. Our property looks like a swamp. The animals are unhappy. The humans are unhappy. I think I spotted a lion and a gazelle hiding among the high grass out in the back. Sigh.
We should be back online on Monday. Unless we get hit by lightning again. Or a tornado. Or Cthulhu decides to return and use our place as a landing pad. Because it wouldn't be all that far-fetched.
