maystone: (Matchstick by Lee)
We had an extensive power failure tonight. We were blacked out from 8ish until around 10:30. Even when it came back the lights were still flickering, so I kept the candle in my room lit, and sure enough - about 45 minutes later it went out again. They came back around 12:30AM, and so far so good.

I of course am too wired to sleep, and caught in a bind about taking a sleeping pill. I have an appointment at 8:30AM to get some more blood work done, so if I take a pill now, it won't wear off in time. (It's 1:36 as I write this.) I may be better off getting (I hope) four hours of sleep. I've done some amazing stuff on just four hours sleep.

Dar had built her usual excellent blazing fire in the downstairs fireplace, and that helped to keep the rest of the house warm. We had some kerosene lamps going for additional light upstairs, but the fumes got to me. I'd been having a bad afternoon anyway with a return of the Cold That Will Not Die, so I was fighting a sore throat and nausea. I ended up barricading myself in my room with the window cracked open rather than hanging out with the happy gang in the living room. I'd stop by for a couple minutes here and there and then scuttle back to my room. At least I had the cats for company. (Quick! Strike up the Pity Polka and everybody dance!)

I suppose I should do something to try to get some sleep. I have other things to do tomorrow, too. Like mail in my request for an absentee ballot for the Feb. 5 primary in MA. I spent the afternoon filling out forms online, but I still have to print them out and send them into the Acton, MA registrar of voters. They will then send me my ballot, which I then will have to mail back to them. That's a lot of reliance on two different national postal systems in just a few weeks time. I really need to hop to it.

But before I go . . . pic spam!
