maystone: (Woman at window by ourescape)
We spent most of the day in Kitchener, running errands and getting Miss M to another diagnostician. The weather in town was beautiful: blue skies, bright sun, some wind but not the gale force that we're used to. Although the temps were still around -10C, the snow was even melting simply from the force of the sunlight. Then we headed back home and as soon as we hit Line 86 (the demarcation of farm country in our area) we hit slate grey skies, high winds, and snow flurries. It really was that abrupt. The roads were clear, although because of the wind the snow was skirling across the tarmac. Then we turned onto Sideroad 15 (our street) and it was like we entered Little Siberia: deep snow on the road, drifts, and furious snow flurries. Our driveway? Buried under drifts again. All we could do was laugh.

We had snow squalls yesterday, so we were housebound (cabin fever! argggggggghhhhh!); I decided to make the best of it by finishing up stripping the walls in the living room. Just me, a bowl of water+fabric softener, a sponge, a spatula, and a very curious Pixel. Without too much sturm und drang, it is done. Today I started stripping the wallpaper in the dining room; for some reasons the cats are fascinated by this. At one point I was standing on a kitchen chair to get to the paper up by the ceiling when I heard a little trill, and there was Pixel on the chair with me, intently watching the paper coming off the wall. Mommy's little helper :)

The asthma is slowly coming back under control; two steps forward, one step back. Today was pretty good until I stepped into a Subway where some asshat was covered in cologne. The ol' lungs shrieked and ran away. At least the effect was temporary; once I got home and took some ventilin and laid still for a bit, things were back in order pretty quickly. Yay!

OK, quick TV stuff. Lost gets one more week. One. They're supposed to be back on the island next week, and they'd damn well better have written one hell of a "Please forgive us!" episode, or else I'm gone. I will give this week's ep one good mark for having Robin Wiegert guest star. I miss my Calamity Jane.

I still like Heroes, but I think that the writers have to start pulling everyone together; the plot lines are starting to travel far afield. I worry that they're going to lose control of all those balls that they're juggling, you know? I've been screwed by Twin Peaks, X-Files, and now Lost; if Heroes fucks up, too . . . I'll cry.

On the other hand, Friday Night Lights has never failed to deliver the goods. I loved last weeks episode; it could have gone very preachy or overplayed, but everyone handled the material beautifully. I just adore everyone on that show.

And to everyone else who is having a hellacious year so far: courage, my sweets. We're all gonna get through this.
