I've had insomnia for about a week; not the kind where you can't fall asleep, the kind where you can't stay asleep. I was getting around 5 intermittent hours a night, which, at least for me, doesn't work so well. Last night I begged
darlong to give me something to put me under, and being the good nurse wifie that she is, she dug out the "happy pill." And because when I have insomnia for that many days in a row it becomes problematic breaking the routine even with pharmaceuticals, I washed it down with a white chocolate liqueur/brandy cocktail. And I still was up for a couple hours. I finally corked off and got a decent amount of sleep, but I paid for it by having the drug in my system for most of the day. I was, shall we say, loopy until almost evening :) It's a problem that I have with a lot of drugs of that class; really, it's why I hate to take them, and why I cannot take most over-the-counter sleep aids: Zombie Time.
We had a bunch of running around to do today, starting off with a CTscan for Dar this morning. Poor thing was a pin cushion as they tried to get the IV into her. They gave up after a very long time trying and went with a non-contrast scan. Results will be in early next week (hopefully), so think very good thoughts, OK? We came home to find that we have two (TWO) (2) (II) (!!) showings of the house this weekend! The first one is tomorrow at 5PM and the second was going to be at 11AM on Sunday, but since we're already scheduled to have an open house from 2-4PM that day, the agent rescheduled his clients to accomodate the open house hours. You know, we've been disappointed so often that none of us dare get our hopes up about this. If it happens, it happens.
Still, that didn't stop Dar from going all commando about livening up the rec room downstairs, so off we went in search of flowers and decorating accessories. We came up with some nice stuff, but we were stymied when it came to getting an accent rug. Where did we end up finding the perfect one? Why, Zehr's, of course. Because your local supermarket should be expected to carry everything for your home. And they do.
And speaking of music (don't hurt yourselves trying to find the smooth segue between those paragraphs, OK?), did you know that Amazon has a section of free downloads? Someone at some point had mentioned that in passing, so yesterday I decided to check it out. Yowzuh! I downloaded about 30 songs - absolutely free, absolutely legal. They had 200 available and they seemed to cross all the genres except opera. I got myself a buttload of Tom Waits (heh. and ewwww.), some Ella Fitzgerald and some Sarah Vaughn, Yo La Tengo, Sun Ra, Allison Crowe, R. L. Burnside, Michael Penn, Sufjan Stevens, Daughter Darling, John Hiatt, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Bela Flek, Susan Tedeschi, Philip Glass, Matisyahu (Hasidic reggae!), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Natacha Atlas. I think that's it. For now. But I'm going back for more. This is the first I've heard of several of the artists in that list (Daughter Darling, Matisyahu, Natacha Atlas); Sufjan Stevens is brand new to these ears, but I fell in love with the two songs that were available for download. Really, if you haven't checked this out at Amazon, I highly recommend it to you; just go to the Music section and scroll to the bottom for the link to the free downloads.
Okey-dokey. I really should get to bed, because tomorrow is gonna be hellacious. Wish us luck, guys.
