This is the little guy I was posting about. I'm very sad to say that he died last night. He developed a stress ulcer from everything that he went through, and it killed him pretty quickly. Just yesterday afternoon it looked as if he'd made a major improvement -he was even trotting around the pasture, wide-eyed at the new world all around him. An hour later he was barely moving. And it just continued downhill from there. Rest in peace, little Donatello.

I'm so sorry he didn't make it. I can't imagine how hard that must be for you guys.

Thanks, gatechen. We were still a bit weepy this morning; this little guy really got to us. And watching Delilah searching everywhere for him and then starting her mourning - well, that's just devastating. It will get better.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear. I hadn't been on LJ and didn't know he was struggling. So sad. All the joy they bring every day ... this has to be hard to see.

It's very hard. Harder still is watching the mothers mourn, knowing there is nothing you can do to help them with their grief. It's heartbreaking.

Oh, god, that would be so sad, and yes, harder because there is nothing we can do. I hope they feel the love and tenderness around them.

I hope you're doing okay too.

I'm so sorry. How's Delilah doing?

She was pretty bad this morning; it was heartbreaking watching her literally running back and forth from the pasture to the barn looking for her baby. She stayed off by herself for a while, but later in the afternoon she was back with the herd. As sad as it is that something so young dies, it's even worse watching the grief of the mothers.

Just thinking about Delilah mourning makes me want to wail. Poor thing. :(
