Tolerant and flexible, you appreciate most lifestyles and viewpoints.

But you also know where you stand firm, and you can draw that line.

You Are Cotton

You are conscientious, thoughtful, and compassionate. You care deeply about the world.

It's likely that you like cotton because it's natural and environmentally friendly.

You examine your actions and decisions carefully. You never forget that you affect others with the things you do.

You probably live a fairly back-to-the earth, green lifestyle. It's organic cotton all the way for you!

I particularly love the first question :)

You React Like a Cat

You are introverted and mysterious. People are curious about what makes you tick.

You trust your intuition. So far it has a good track record of not leading you astray.

You have an amazing amount of strength. You refuse to let stress bother you.

You don't mind if the world doesn't understand you. No one is going to harsh your mellow!

Not really a surprise, but validation is always good. Heh.
1. Make a list of 5 things that are in reach.
Bottle of water, cup of hot chocolate, TV remote, eye glasses, bathrobe.

2. What is your favourite holiday?
Back in the States it was the Fourth of July. I still miss it.

3. What is one item of clothing you wish you could always wear?
Long-sleeved, long cotton top.

4. Books, hard cover or soft cover?
Soft cover. A lot easier to carry with me or store.

5. What do you hear right now?
An ad for Staples on the TV.

6. Who was the last person you hugged?
That would be Dar, yesterday.

7. What random song just popped in your head now?
I don't remember the name, but the refrain is "Open up a window!" from the play/movie 1776.

8. What did you do today?
Hauled a lot of water buckets and sleds full of alpaca poo.

9. What was the last text you received?
The only text I ever receive is from Virgin Mobil reminding me to top up my account.

10. What was the last item of new clothing you purchased?
A pair of winter boots in January that I can't really wear. I thought the swelling from my broken foot would go down, but it never did.

10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
The always-open tabs are gmail, LJ, Facebook, Twitter, and at least one political blog.

11. What is your next big planned purchase?
I don't do big purchases :)

12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
New England to visit my family and friends.

13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Given the variables in my life, I have no idea. Hopefully still breathing, though.

14. Where's your tattoo/Where would you like a tattoo?
Not a tattoo fan.

15. What are you doing this weekend?
The usual chores and errands. Done to London to see Dar in the hospital.

16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
Cello.

17. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
I've heard the phrase, but I don't know the context. I'm old, guys.

18. Are you a creeper?
I don't even know what that means. (See #17.)

19. What is your dream job?
Animal photographer.

20. What's the last good movie you saw?
I don't go to the movies, so on the cable movie channel that would be Alice in Wonderland.

21. Recommend a thing.
Treme on HBO. I am absolutely in love with that show. It is one of the few shows that I would want to live in. (The other two being Firefly and Homicide: Life on the Street.)
This was a Question of the Day over at Shakesville a while back, and it received some interesting answers. I thought I'd repost it here and on FaceBook (since I have a different flist over there).

If you were to have the good fortune of an admired singer/songwriter/lyricist offering to compose/sing a song just for you, by whom would that offer be made?

(If hearing impaired flisters, or anyone else, would prefer to answer what poet they would chose to write a poem just for them, please feel free to modify.)

I would want Leonard Cohen to compose it, and I think I'd like Loreena McKennitt to sing it. Or Tom Waits. It would depend on the song.

(I'm using this icon because it always reminds me of Cohen's song, Joan of Arc.)

OK, have at it, please.
This is true. Nothing is as scary to me as human evil.

You Are a Serial Killer Movie

You find the evil of other people to be fascinating, and you are obsessed with the twisted minds of serial killers.

Forget the devil, vampires, or random monsters... no one is capable of as much terror as a human is.

You love the psychological drama and mystery that comes with serial killer films. Being scared is just not enough for you!

You like films that explore the sick killings of a murderer... the sicker the better. You go for movies like Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, and Zodiac.

[livejournal.com profile] sffan was just bemoaning the fact that no one does the old-fashioned memes anymore, so I rooted around and found one.

Your Life's Path is Indigo

You seek harmony and understanding. You want to be one with the universe.

You believe it's important to find and cultivate a purpose in your life. You can't imagine living without meaning.

You are intuitive and thoughtful. You appreciate solitude, but you also draw energy from being with others.

You are an excellent communicator. You can connect with even the most withdrawn people.

From [livejournal.com profile] hawkmoth:
When you see this, post your favorite poem.

Forgetfulness

The name of the author is the first to go
followed obediently by the title, the plot,
the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel
which suddenly becomes one you have never read,
never even heard of,

as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor
decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain,
to a little fishing village where there are no phones.

Long ago you kissed the names of the nine Muses goodbye
and watched the quadratic equation pack its bag,
and even now as you memorize the order of the planets,

something else is slipping away, a state flower perhaps,
the address of an uncle, the capital of Paraguay.

Whatever it is you are struggling to remember,
it is not poised on the tip of your tongue,
not even lurking in some obscure corner of your spleen.

It has floated away down a dark mythological river
whose name begins with an L as far as you can recall,
well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those
who have even forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle.

No wonder you rise in the middle of the night
to look up the date of a famous battle in a book on war.
No wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out of a love poem that you used to know by heart.

Billy Collins

[livejournal.com profile] caerwynx - who is my conduit to poetry - sent this to me when I was deep in the throes of memory loss due to lupus/neurological problems. It scared me because of where I saw myself heading and it thrilled me because it so perfectly captured what I was feeling. It has become my favorite poem.

You're Tansu Ciller!

In an effort to find your true path, you've
put education first and foremost. With an interest in numbers
and foreign countries, you've traveled extensively for
knowledge and reached out to those who may have previously
rejected you. This passion for exploration has largely served
you well, but also made enemies of those who want to stay
closer to home. While your enemies often get the best of you,
you'll always have your legacy intact. You're a big fan of
do-it-yourself projects.

I had to google her. She was was Turkey's first and only female Prime Minister until she left office under corruption charges in 1995. She's very conservative. She's now a member of the Council of Women World Leaders.

I'm not really sure what that's supposed to say about me :) I think it was the educational part that clinched it; she was a professor before entering politics.

Your Word is "Fearless"

You see life as your one chance to experience everything, and you just go for it!

You believe the biggest risk is being afraid and missing out on something amazing.

Sometimes your fearlessness means you're daring. You enjoy risky activities.

And sometimes your fearlessness means you're courageous. You're brave enough to do the right thing, even when it's scary.

OK. Certainly more in my younger days than now. I thought I was going to get "Why?". It's just about my favorite word ever :)
A cool little meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] drocera.

01. My uncle once: almost drowned me by holding me under water. He was the one asshole among a group of great guys who were my uncles.

02. Never in my life: have I deliberately vandalized anything.

03. When I was five: I helped the neighbor's dog break out of his pen by digging an escape tunnel for him. Run, Buttons! Run!

04. High school was: pretty solitary for me until almost the end of my junior year when I finally made some friends. I was very shy.

05. I will never forget: reaching the Grand Canyon in time to watch the sun rise.

06. Once I met: Mary Daly, a very famous radical feminist theologian. I was expecting a towering physical presence along the lines of Bea Arthur - instead she was this little, roly-poly, mousy-haired woman in faded jeans and a sweatshirt with a giraffe on it, trailing a gaggle of worshipping German students after her. She wasn't what I was expecting, but she sure as hell made a lasting impression :)

07. There’s this girl I know: who was beautiful and brilliant and on her way to New York to be a high class call girl. This was in the mid-70s, and I often wonder how she fared.

08. Once, at a bar: my girlfriends and I got in a fight with a bunch of guys who wanted to know what we "were doing out all alone." Sigh. One of my straight friends said we were all lesbians, and we all started making out. The guys told us we didn't know what we were missing, and my friend said, "What have you got to offer besides your cock?" And that's when they threw the pitcher of beer at us . . . We all ended up getting tossed out :)

09. By noon, I’m usually: pretty tired these days. I hate it.

10. Last night: I introduced the 17-year-old [livejournal.com profile] longshadowsfall to The Beatles via the movie Across the Universe.

11. If only I had: not ditched my upper retainer, my teeth wouldn't be shifting again.

12. Next time I go to church: it will be a synagogue :)

13. What worries me most: is what's going to happen with my Immigration. This could get really bad. It could also turn out OK. I simply don't know, and that really worries me.

14. When I turn my head left I see: my bureau with several bottles of water on it.

15. When I turn my head right I see: an overstuffed bookcase.

16. You know I’m lying when: I say I like Rod Stewart's singing.

17. What I miss most about the Eighties is: going back to college and turning my life around. Very exhilarating time for me.

18. If I were a character in Shakespeare I’d be: any of the courtiers or ladies who does not end up dead at the end.

20. If I ever go back to school: it would be a bit of a miracle. But I'd certainly like to.

(I have no idea what happened to question 19. It seems to have gone on walkabout.)

Your result for Santa's Reindeer Personality Test...

Dancer!

38% Dancer, 0% Dasher, 16% Prancer, 22% Vixen, 0% Comet, 0% Cupid, 0% Donner, 22% Blitzen and 16% Rudolph!

Ho ho! You are the Dancer reindeer personality! Dancer is graceful and loves to dance and party. But she doesn't really like to be thought of as graceful, she is a bit more modest than that. Dancer has a way of making things look easier than they are. She's quick witted too, and sometimes people underestimate her. She isn't one to make the same mistakes over and over, she remembers things and avoids obstacles and problems.

Santa says: "Dancer is beautiful to watch and a joy to know. She is talented and artistic and we are better for knowing her."
